Off Like the Wind!: The First Ride of the Pony Express

On April 3, 1860 rider Johnny Fry left St. Joseph, Missouri with the first westbound mail delivery of a brand new venture called The Pony Express. Over a 2000 mile trail crossing some of the most desolate and rugged terrain in the United States, riders would carry the mail from Missouri all the way to California. They said it couldn’t be done. They were wrong.

Follow the first mail pouch on its perilous journey as riders cross the plains, desert and mountains to deliver the mail. Forced to contend with storms, floods, buffalo stampedes, blizzards, wolves, and attacks by native tribes, these men rode into history with courage and determination.

Beautifully illustrated by award winning artist Layne Johnson, see the excerpt and preorder Off Like the Wind, set for publication on February 16, 2010.
